You know the sadness that takes over you in the line at Starbucks as you look at all the pastries in the case knowing you can’t eat any of it…. That feeling must be why I’m always trying recipes for things I see in that case at Starbucks. Or in this case those little bags by the register at Starbucks.
I have to admit I was intimidated by this recipe. The resting and refrigerating make me think this recipe is too fussy to make, but it is pretty easy.
I do find it is best to let the eggs come to room temperature. And I melt the Earth Balance in the microwave and let it sit until it is room temp.
The batter is really thick. But there are so few ingredients I like to hand stir this recipe instead of use my mixer.
I use a small disher to fill the molds, and usually have enough to make two pans worth.
I hope these will make it easier to stand in line at Starbucks. Enjoy! -SB
I like anything that has dill. My garden is overflowing with dill that reseeds itself year after year. The first time I saw this salad I thought “a whole cup of dill! – must be good!”
I still have the problem that no one else in my house is a fan of turkey. Thus no leftovers, because no turkey dinners.
One of my other favorite green things is celery! I love the leaves and the insides. In fact I grow it in my garden just to have the leaves for salads.
I like to buy a turkey breast and cook it in a crockpot on low for about 8 hours with white wine, veggies, and some fresh herbs. Sometimes I will use two legs. Make sure to keep the bones to make stock!
This salad is pretty and would be good to take for a holiday potluck. I like it for lunch with or without greens and sprouts.
I could make a batch of chicken bone broth a week and it still would t be enough for my household. I had been using freezer bags but was loosing one or two bags full a month when thawing them out in the fridge.
The last two batches I made I froze in Ball jars with plastic lids. What a game changer. Getting the soup into the jars was not as messy as trying to get it in the freezer bags. The one going to remember is you do need to make sure they are room temp before putting them in the freezer. Both batches have worked great!
Do you have a favorite way to freeze your homemade broth? -SB
Yesterday (November 15) was National Clean Out Your Fridge Day.
This is a great time to make sure all the old condiments and things you may never finish make room for all the yummy holiday food.
Here is a peek inside my fridge. I try to be on top of old condiments and leftovers, but the physical cleaning of the shelves and drawers I try to do one at a time over a week. Mostly because my fridge is never empty. So mine is more “clean out your fridge week”.
The holidays would not be complete without green bean casserole. When we first went dairy and gluten free we went many years without this holiday staple. Then I learned to make a roux and I started making this casserole again without the French Fried Onions. And then, ALDI started making gluten free french fried onions and holidays dinner was complete!
Personally I like it if the green beans are still a little crunchy so I use fresh beans. Using can or frozen beans is fine too. The other ingredient that can be changed around is the onions. I like using dried chopped onions, the ones you get in the spice isle. These make me think more of the dried onion soup mix that I used before we started our gallery journey.
I hope this recipe helps make your holidays complete. – SB
Slowly whisk in chicken broth followed by the rice milk. Whisk until thickened.
Season with salt and pepper, and add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
In a saute pan heat a few tablespoons of olive oil and add mushrooms and stir occasionally until mushrooms are softened. Add the garlic to the mushrooms and heat for just one minute more.
In a casserole dish combine green beans, roux, mushrooms, chopped onions, nutritional yeast, a whole can of french fried onions, and season with salt and pepper.
Cook at 350 for 20 minutes. Take out casserole and stir. Top the casserole with some more french fried onions and cook for 10 more minutes.
This can be made a few days ahead of time and reheated for you r holiday dinner. Enjoy! – http://www.cygnetorganize.com
Thanksgiving is approaching quickly and it’s time to start thinking about your menu, ok it’s actually past time. My family is not really too into the whole Turkey course and I am the only one who seems to enjoy stuffing, but it just isn’t Thanksgiving without them.
My planning usually starts on a post-it. I make a short list and definitely not the final menu I will serve that day. Starting with just the basics and then reflecting on 1. my schedule for the week before, 2. wether or not we will be having guests, 3. what help I will have with cooking. Help me to see what other dishes to add.
I am trying to get my kids more involved in the preparation of the food. They both enjoy cooking and have started to be really helpful when preparing big meals.

Gluten free, Dairy free, Nut Free, Soy Protein free, and Nightshade free in one yummy doughnut that I did not have to make.
I recently took them on a weekend get away with family to enjoy with my coffee in the morning. Traveling can be hard when you are avoiding multiple food allergens. I have found that Katz doughnuts have become my go-to breakfast when traveling.
I’ve been working really hard at remembering to bring my own cup when I go to Starbucks.
We have a big cabinet at home full of reusable tumblers and insulated mugs. When I leave in the morning I make sure I have a empty reusable and one full of water.
More and more public spaces have water bottle fillers available. Yay! Since I am still trying to “Drink more water”! And many coffee places will give you a small discount for bringing in your own cup.
I know, as an organizer am I not suppose to want you to own less stuff? Yes, but this is one of those cases where I say “Buy a reusable mug (or two) that you really like” and wash it at home. I really like this life factory insulated mug and the other is a cup we bought at Five Below.
